Oh hey! More insanely stupid things from the Smogonites-- a seemingly different e-race who like to make a mess of their own tier system!
Today's topic would be on Salamence; admittedly not a Pokemon I use all that often, much like Garchomp, but still one I find stupid for the reasons they bumped up there in the first place.
For Garchomp, I believe it was because it was 'too powerful', or some crud like that. (which is immediately baffling, since there are several Pokemon with the same, or stronger base Attack/Special Attack as Garchomp, including Porygon-Z, Alakazam and Metagross) Admittedly I could be wrong, because until recently, I still thought they had Umbreon in UU/BL and I rarely go there for updates on a tier system I don't use.
But that doesn't stop me from having an opinion on something that seemingly 80% of Pokemon battlers online all use as the template example of what can and cannot be used in specific matches.
If you look at Salamence's page, he has been relegated to the role of being Rayquaza's lapdog in Ubers. None of the sets indicate a thread of sense for the reason of it being boosted up there, but it seems to be they're almost adopting the 'its too powerful' rule and sugar-coating it with lapdoggedness under Rayquaza.
The following text is stuff I posted on a forum I visit where a thread actually appeared concerning the removal of Salamence from OU:
In respects to Smogon's "Rayquaza's Dance Partner" set for Salamence:
Yeah... so? That's like saying Kingdra is a powerful asset in Ubers alongside Kyogre, because once the rain is going, Swift Swim will almost always allow you to outspeed your opponents' Pokemon and a well-timed Draco Meteor will likely either KO or severely damage Palkia.
"Oh noes! Kingdra should be Uber, too!!"
In respects to Smogon's "Rayquaza's Wall Breaking Partner":
Something that Blissey could do with its Special Defense and absolutely ridiculous HP stats-- it also doesn't take 4x damage from Ice-type attacks, can learn Thunder Wave and can be assisted itself by Lugia or Defense forme Deoxys, who can take the physical attacks nicely.
Say what you will; I've heard a lot of people actually say, "Oh, it'll hopefully bring a more diverse selection of Pokemon out now that one of the 'big guns' is gone," which I wouldn't mind, if an actual reason was given, outside of the crappy, "Wah, we say it is so, so follow our rules! Salamence is a good partner for Rayquaza! Insta-Uber!!!"-kind of crap that just emanates from Smogon with this 'decision'.
...and the reason why it bothers me so? The fact that people are calling Uber over it, already! There was one comment I saw on a video I forget that listed it as Uber, just because Smogon say so.
Well... that's my 'rant' on Salamence's position on Smogon, I suppose. Good luck to all the Smogonites running around YouTube going, "OMG, u r teh sux, relying on an U8BER!!1!"

Ehh... looks like I screwed up, thanks to the way Serebii crappily posted their updates. Gochiruzeru IS the tall black thing, while Rankurusu IS the green thing.
On top of that, I can now tell why people refer to Gochiruzeru as a human-like Pokemon.
Other stuff:
- Kibago is what I expected it to be; a Dragon-type. No doubt it will fill the same role as Dratini, Larvitar, Bagon and Gible. Rivalry and Mold Breaker are said to be its abilities, while it comes with a new move in Double Chop, which no doubt works like Double Hit, only I'd assume its a Dragon-type move.
- Koromori has a couple unfortunate abilities that I kind of hope don't follow over onto its evolutions; Unaware and Klutz and as I said, it jumps into the role of Psychic/Flying-types. Apparently, it will learn the move Heart Stamp, which is said to cause flinching.
- Minezumi is a Normal-type and has a couple standard abilities; Run Away and Keen Eye. Apparently has a move called YouFirst, which let's the opponent move before it. Don't know how it works, but I'd assume the same as Me First...? *shrugs* I still don't like this thing...
- Gochiruzeru unfortunately only gets Frisk. Better than some, I suppose. It does know a move called Magic Room, though, which apparently negates item use for all Pokemon in battle for 5 turns. Gochiruzeru is also Version Exclusive to Pokemon Black, making it the second announced Version Exclusive to Black.
- Rankurusu has one ability called Dust-Proof, which apparently negates the damage that weather like Hail deals, but it also has Magic Guard, making it the fourth Pokemon to get the ability previously unique to Cleffa and its evolutions. Its also a Psychic-type (which makes my theory of it being a Carnivine evolution almost impossible), but can only be found on Pokemon White. Yep, this is the second/third announced Version Exclusive Pokemon to White.
- Wooguru I already mentioned in its own blog entry. Still one of my favourite Pokemon from Black & White. Hope it isn't Version Exclusive...
- Musharna has Forewarn and Synchronise, as to be expected, with it being an evolution to Munna. Seems the Dream Smoke thing is 100% legit to being connected to transferring your save to the Internet. I honestly haven't read up on it, so... lol...
...I think that's about it. Until I talk about the other stuff in more detail.

Here we go again. Maybe I should have just waited for the next CoroCoro to be leaked... but I wasn't expecting it this soon... ehh...
Anyway, while the title is 'More New Pokemon', a fair few of them are just Pokemon that were previously announced that have now been given names or now have faces that we can actually see.
Koromori
This being an example of the latter. Koromori's back sprite was all we had to go on until recently, seeing as it was given away in some graphically terrible (in terms of seeing anything) beta art and we only got the back sprite in a release of screenshots about a week or two before the release of the above picture from CoroCoro.
It kind of looks a little goofy, to be honest... though thankfully it doesn't look to be just a freaking Zubat-like Pokemon... hopefully, in terms of rarity, I hope it isn't as common in caves and such, and I hope they ditch the damn Zubat in caves, because I'm sick of seeing them in every title...!
It carries the interesting typing of Psychic/Flying, apparently. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up alongside the others of the same typing-- those only being Lugia and Natu/Xatu, I believe.
Minezumi
Oh boy, I bet this thing will be the staple starting Normal-type Pokemon... I honestly don't like it. However, I dislike it less than the piece of trash we got in Generation IV. I have no more to say about this... thing. Though I will say its a nice change to see a chipmunk Pokemon.
Musharna
Munna's evolution, it would seem. To be fairly honest, there's not a great deal of difference in them. Other than Musharna making it seemingly apparent that the Pokemon is designed around tapirs or a similar shaped animal. I'm a little curious about the supposed connection this Pokemon has with the save data upload to Nintendo's servers, as was mentioned on Serebii and their horrible announcement editing, but then it makes me wonder if this Pokemon too will be a Pokemon that falls to the same fate as Zorua and Zoroark, where it will only be released via a Nintendo-controlled event, allowing you to unlock the Pokemon...
I'll be losing faith if they do... despite already having done so with the whole Zorua/Zoroark thing... xD;
Rankurusu
Finally given a name, this Pokemon was one I was a little dubious about in the previous entry where I talked about the new Pokemon released via screen shots and such. The design is weird, to me... people have been calling it a human-like Pokemon, and such... but I don't really see the 'humanoid' aspect of it, other than it seemingly being a Pokemon walking on two legs.
Gochiruzeru
Gochiruzeru has a rather curious design. I pinned it as a possible relation to Carnivine or something in the other entry, but I'm kind of not really sure about that, now... but I am semi-sticking to it being an evolution of that stupid green thing that reminded me of Chip from Sonic Unleashed. Of which I'll probably be wrong, lol...
Kibago
Mentioned before, Kibago was named after the image I posted before, I think... gah, my terrible memory... anyway, I'm going to hold onto the point that I feel this will be the basic stage of this Generations overall base 600 Pokemon. It has the kind of design that is similar to at least the most recent three (Larvitar, Bagon and Gible), so it kind of seems logical to pin it as that. Could it possibly be a Dragon/Rock-type Pokemon? Who knows... other than those working on the games... lol
Wargle/Wooguru
Easily my favourite Pokemon of the recently included. PokeBeach calls it Wargle, while Serebii calls it Wooguru, so I've no idea, at this point, what its actual name is, but it seems my previous entry on the silhouette was right; it was indeed a Pokemon in the form of an eagle.
Something a friend mentioned was it seemed to have a South American style to it, but I can't 100% remember what was actually mentioned in that conversation, but it being a eagle, regardless of wherever else eagles appear in the world, has given me another ray of speculative hope that the Region of Isshu is indeed western-based.
The unfortunate thing is, the released shots of the CoroCoro magazine don't reveal the entirety of the Pokemon, which is a great shame, but hey, it'll come... and I'll be looking forward to it.
RenegadeFox' Gen. V Top Pokemon
So far...
Chiramii!
- I love the design of this little guy. It gave me a ray of hope that the starting Normal-type was going to be awesome, for a change.
Meguroko!
- A desert Crocodile with an ability that makes revenge kills all the more sinister? Hella yes! I'm hoping this Pokemon evolves, because I'm sure it'll have a really awesomely designed evolution.
Denchura!
- Its about time we got another spider-like Pokemon in there. Though we currently don't know what it looks like from the front, I'd venture to guess it has a similar look to Ariados, maybe?
Wargle/Wooguru!
- I feel this is more like the company that brought us Pokemon. If they bring us more Pokemon awesomely designed like this one, I think Generation V will certainly be better!
Until next time, people...
-RenegadeFox
Pokemon Sunday have shown a silhouette of a new Flying-type Pokemon and I've decided to come on here and give a bit of speculation as to what the Pokemon could be.
The editor on Serebii.net says that there is no chance of it being the Pokemon that could be Mamepato's evolution, Hatooboo... and I'd have to agree. The design of the silhouette doesn't look at all like Hatooboo.
For reference:
Final Stage of Mamepato?
The design of the silhouette doesn't suggest it to be of the same kind of Pokemon as Mamepato, which is obviously a Pokemon based on a pigeon. If you ask me, the shape of the silhouette looks more like a hawk or eagle of some sort.
My Opinion: Not Possible
An evolution of Fearow?
I'd say that this is a possibility. To me, the design of the wings look somewhat similar to those of Fearow and the feathers around its talons look a little raggedy. One thing that doesn't really support it would be the fact that the beak is short, while Fearow's is long. It does seem to have some sort of crest on its head, though.
My Opinion: Possible
A Branch Evolution for Pidgeotto!?
Of the thoughts on this being an evolution of a Pokemon from a previous Generation, I think this one is the more likely, mainly because the shape of the Pokemon looks strikingly similar to that of Pidgeot. However, I personally don't think this will be a branch evolution of Pidgeotto and will likely not introduce another stage of evolution to allow for Pidgeot to evolve, instead.
My Opinion: Possible
This new Pokemon... 'Bald Eagle-like', maybe?
Yes, I'd have guessed people would have figured I'd bring this up... along with my thoughts of the Isshu Region having the possibility of being set in the 'western world' due to some of the things that were included and announced in the Region earlier, the announcement of this Pokemon silhouette got me thinking even more about it, as this could very well fall into the category of the bald eagle of this Region. Though maybe not; looking at the silhouettes' head, there is some sort of a crest-like shape on its head, which I'm pretty sure bald eagles don't have.
My Opinion:(Personal) Strong Possibility
But hey, this is all just my speculation. This new Pokemon could just be like Skarmory; a Pokemon that doesn't evolve. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. There are probably more comparisons I could make to other Pokemon, but these were the ones that I thought were the more obvious, obscure, or just plain biased opinions of a fan of Pokemon.
I mean, these are the ones I thought were the more interesting to list.
*cough*
-RenegadeFox
Something I never thought would happen for the fact that there are only six Pokemon in a Trainers' party is Triple Battles.
As someone who enjoys Double Battles more than Singles, you'd think that Triple Battles would be right up my alley... but I'm not really sure I'd enjoy a literal 3-on-3 encounter. I think they made the right choice when going for a Doubles environment in battles, as it makes sense that a Trainer would be able to maintain control of two Pokemon in battle at the same time, as well as making a wonderful change of pace for battles.
With Triple Battles, it just feels like they're trying to one-up themselves or prove that with the latest game, they can do it. That they can let people use half of their team in a single turn. While it would bring up lots of pretty interesting possibilities in terms of strategies, I'm just not convinced that it is a battle format that I'll be comfortable with. But with that, I thought the same about Double Battles and I got into those easily enough.
Another thing that is a bit iffy is the sprite distribution. I think it might be a little crammed with the sprites. But that's just me.

Random WiFi Battles on a main hand held Pokemon game is what we've undoubtedly been waiting for since PBR came along and showed us it was possible. At the very least, its a feature I've been wanting to see in the games since before Platinum (when I got PBR, quite a while before Platinum's European release, at least) and can finally get it, come Spring 2011. Looking forward to it.
There's apparently a save file feature, where you 'upload' your file to Nintendo's servers, play some games online or something and get some stuff on your game for your efforts. Sounds interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it.
I think that's about it... there'll probably be another entry either when CoroCoro's next issue is leaked, most likely next week, or whenever anything else is revealed. I'll save Hatooboo (the apparent evolution of Mamepato), Kibago (the Larvitar/Gible-like Pokemon that I'm sure will be the basic stage of Ononokusu) and other Pokemon stuff until then. That way, they'll be confirmed, and maybe I'll have more Pokemon to talk about?
I certainly hope so.
-RenegadeFox
As people will have probably already noticed, there have been several 'reveals' of new Pokemon. Some are yet unconfirmed and the first I'll add here is just beta art, apparently. But according to another image, it could be the 'final design', if it IS real.
There are four Pokemon on here that are new; two beween Jessie and the new girl stood next to Ash and two that seem to be evolutions of the Water and Grass Starters, Mijumaru and Tsutaja. Of these, only one has an apparent confirmed name; the one flying near Jessie's head is apparently a bat Pokemon called Koromori. (who wants to bet Koromori will be a Pokemon acquired by one of the dumbtastic duo?) Since the art is so blurry and small, I can't really pass comment too much, but I will say that I'm not really impressed with what is apparently the next stage for Mijumaru... Tsutaja's apparent evolution seems okay. About as I'd have expected it to evolve.
These are the latest unconfirmed new Pokemon. The one on the left is actually the one on the ground between Jessie and the new girl in the beta art above. (by the looks of it) I'd assume it to be a Ground-type Pokemon, as it reminds me a lot of Gible.
The green thing looks a little weird... it reminds me of that dang-awful annoying flying thing from Sonic Unleashed called Chip and I couldn't stand him... I'd assume its the previous evolution of another Pokemon coming up; both these are currently unnamed, as the beta art is too trashed to tell what the text is next to them. (though the green thing isn't on the beta art)
On the right, circled in green, there is a mole-like Pokemon in the announced triple battle. (something I'll be talking about later, in a new entry) We can only see its back here, so I can't really say much about it, other than I believe this will be the first mole-like Pokemon since Diglett and Dugtrio in Generation I. Its apparent evolution to follow.
Here's the apparent evolution of Moguryu. We get a decent frontal view of this one, and I guess it looks okay. That 'drill piece' on top of its head kind of looks like a helmet-like item based on the fact that Doryuuzu's nose is at least a similar length. It also apparently has a new attack, but I forget.
Here's a thought... maybe this Pokemon is the evolved form of the little brown thing further up the page! ...no? Oh well...
This one kind of reminds me of a couple fossil Pokemon; Kabutops and Armaldo, to be exact. Looks pretty decent.
What the hell? A sarcophagus? Are you serious?
Undoubtedly at least a Ghost-type. Though it begs the question as to why there's a Sarcophagus Pokemon, anyway... I kinda take this as another reason to think this is a Pokemon game that is outside the obvious Japanese settings of the previous games. However flimsy it may be.
Finally, another Spider Pokemon that, from what we can see, looks pretty awesome. It'll probably be of the Bug- and Poison-types, like Ariados was, before it. It actually has a kind-of Ariados stance about it though... wouldn't you say...? Ahh, probably just me.
As you can probably tell, I'm looking forward to this Pokemon, too.
These three Pokemon haven't been given names, as yet. Though I'd go as far as to say that I feel the one on the left will probably be the evolved form of the green thing mentioned earlier in this entry. My original thought though, was that it might be either an evolved form or pre-evolution form of Carnivine.
The one in the middle looks really nasty. I really have to say, there have been fakemon and fanworks out there that look better than this guy. That's including the scary Jynx evolutions I've come across. I doubt it, but maybe its an attempt to make Probopass look less stupid. Which it semi-succeeds in doing, in my opinion. But not by much.
I have no idea what the thing on the right is supposed to be. Kind of looks like a cross between a slinky and a cat, or something... really weird...
I'll be looking at how things are on the new gaming additions, such as Triple Battling in the next entry, which will probably be in the next few days, and if not, the weekend. Until then.
